Enkirch and the Mighty Moselle

Day 17 - 10th June

As the weather was so good, we all ate breakfast outside taking in the beautiful view of the surrounding vineyards and river.

Claire and I had not exercised any great deal in the past few days, so were very keen to take a ride through the local towns. We headed towards the town of Zell, which was the next crossing point across the Moselle.
View over the Moselle and the town of Zell.
It was an amazing ride along the riverbanks and we crossed over to the other side and headed up some pretty steep hills into the vineyards. It was quite funny to see that the local farmers didn’t use tractors, 4WD or four-wheel motorbikes to tend to their crops, but little white transit vans!

We ended up covering nearly 40km and came back to camp to find out that Mum had managed to loose her phone while walking around Enkirch that morning. Mum claimed that it must of being stolen, however, given the people that frequent Enkirch (mostly Grey Army) I suspected that she probably had dropped it somewhere.

I tried ringing the phone and it went straight to voice mail, so decided to send it a message stating that it had been lost by a silly old woman and if they could ring me to hand it back it would be much appreciated.

Low and behold, 5 minutes later the phone rang and a young German man had said he had the phone and could meet outside the local pizzeria to hand it back. Mum quickly bolted off and collected the phone to be told that they had found it in one of the local vineyards that Mum had been walking through that morning!

Afternoon ride on the motorbike up to the top of a vineyard outside of Enkirch.
After lunch Claire and I got the motorbike out (finally) and took it for a ride further up the road through more towns and vineyards, stopping at the top of one rather large hill to take in the view.

Dinner was spaghetti Bolognese cooked by Mum, which was surprisingly good considering the lack of cooking she does today.
