Berlin Dogga

Day 27 - 20th June

As we camped fairly close to Berlin the night previously, the drive to Berlin was pretty quick.

Unfortunately, what we didn’t know was which of the three airports Michael and Caitlin were arriving into.

We stopped at the first airport, which was on our path in to Berlin, only to find that they didn’t take flights from Krakow. Thankfully, the airport information desk was very helpful and directed us to the Tegel airport, which happened to be on the other side of Berlin.

Michael and Caitlin’s flight was slightly delayed so we ended up all arriving at the same time and it was a textbook transition from tarmac to Maxi.

Michael and Caitlin were already booked into an apartment in Berlin so we headed towards it to find a suitable parking space. After circling the block for a few minutes in driving rain, we found the mother of all car parks directly outside the front door of their apartment (old Keithystrasse) and opposite a café with wireless.

It took some maneuvering of the van in front of a bunch of lunchtime revelers and tradies on their smoke break, but after only hitting the BMW behind the van 3 times we managed to get in. I felt like George Costanza. What about the park Jerry!

It had quickly gone past lunchtime and all of us were hungry, so we had a dirty Berlin street schnitzel double fried in bread to small for aforementioned schnitzel.

To digest lunch we headed into town to take a look at the many sights that Berlin has to offer. Caitlin had conveniently pointed out that bus 100 would take us to all the sights around Berlin that the Hop On Hop Off would, only at half the price. In fact it was really cheap cause by the time we got off at the Reichstag, we still hadn’t figured out how to use the ticket machine.
Outside the Reichstag.

Michael looking at some car options for an upgrade of the Hyundai work vehicle.

Shot of Checkpoint Charlie from the second floor of McDonalds. What a ironic place to put a Macca's and the sign has conveniently been placed on the Russian side.

In the persistent rain we managed to get in a lot of the key sights taking a look at the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, the hotel window Michael J dangled a baby from, Check Point Charlie, 1.3km of the Berlin Wall and then a train back to the Berlin Zoo, which was nearby where we were staying.
Classic GDR car with a classic bunch of people.
When in Rome.

All a little tired from the days events, we decided to eat locally which happened to be 50m from the apartment front door and van. It was a great meal of Schazliks and Chicken followed by a few beers back in the apartment and bed.

Getting out and about (and dressing up) in Berlin. This restaurant was literally 50m from the apartment door, as we we're knackered from walking around all day.
