Day 48 - July 11th
As we were now on Lake Vanern, our plan was to drive along the border of it and scout out a nice looking town to stop for the day or potentially a couple of days.
After driving through a number of places, stopping at another marina for some incredible hot dogs from a jar we ended up in the district of Hammaro.
We made our way through the thick pine forest on narrow winding roads and arrived at a nature reserve at a tiny little inlet on the oceanfront. The area was strewn with hiking trails, so we decided to park up and go for a wander through the Swedish bush.

On the home stretch. |
Going off the trail for a bit and following the coastline we came across a couple of people working on some sort of photo shoot for a furniture catalogue as they had a full size bed and arm chair perched on the edge of the water and were taking a number of shots with a huge flash.
Lovely view from the room but a little breezy. |
Due to this distraction we lost our way from the trail momentarily and ended up in the backyard of some ones house, only to be chased out through the scrub by a rather excited dog.
We eventually found ourselves back on course and followed the hiking trail through dense forest and back out to the coastline on a number of occasions and ended up coming out to a really nice parking lot right by a sandy beach.
Given that this site was far better than the nature reserve we had just parked at, we decided that once we got back to the van we would move it to this more picturesque location.
After finally covering 13km (and going past an amazing golf course), we got back to the van and headed to our new spot for the night.

Fairly starving from the walk earlier, we had a senior citizens meal (eating before 6:30pm) and then spent the night relaxing on the shoreline by a campfire and with a couple of glasses of red from the now aptly named ‘Box of Fun’ (Cotes de Rhone Cask Wine). Bloody lovely.
Campfire on the coastline. We use old bank statements and records from the UK to light fires as we go. It's a great way to remind you of the life we've put on hold while travelling. |
Straight out of the 'Box of Fun'. |
